Introducing Daily Challenges on Learn Code Now
Consistency is, honestly, one of the hardest parts of REALLY trying to learn to code. Not because the material is impossible or too hard, but because we all have lives outside of coding, and that's okay! With life, motivational dips, and even schedule changes, it's easy to lose that momentum you once had between lessons.
That’s why we’re introducing Daily Challenges on Learn Code Now.
Daily Challenges are designed to give you a simple, focused reason to come back each day, without interrupting your progress through courses or overwhelming you with extra work. They’re meant to fit naturally into your learning routine, not compete with it.
So, what really are daily challenges?
Each day, LCN will give you one short coding challenge. These challenges are meant to feel easy! Thankfully enough, they're based on what you're learning, struggling on, and are FULLY DESIGNED to be completed fast AND easy. The nice thing is, unlike some other daily challenges (that I use to hate really terribly), you WON'T be dropped into stuff you haven't seen before and won't be forced to do like 50 questions to complete it (I know, thank me later.)
Daily challenges are personalized, rather than one-size-fits-all. (Sorry for the competitive people out there. Try our competitions, though!) Instead of trying to give one problem to everyone, we look at the courses you are already taking, the concepts you've been struggling with, and your OVERALL progress. From there, we choose a challenge that, instead of teaching, reinforces what you've already learned! This might seem like a bad idea, but the reality is that retention is significantly better than just trying to speed through courses at the fastest pace possible or trying to force new topics on you to learn. Again, thank me later.
On top of all of this, when you complete a Daily Challenge, you earn XP and streaks! Streaks are optional (for the people who can't be super consistent), but they DO exist to reward your consistency over time! If you miss a day, there is no penalty, so don't worry. You don't lose course progress, and nothing gets locked. You simply start a new streak the moment you return!
Launch Date & What's next
Daily Challenges should be available on December 21. Some users may already see the daily challenge UI appear, but it has no functionality until December 21. Once Daily Challenges launch, you'll be able to begin to see questions and answer them, including gaining a streak AND xp!
Of course, this is the first version of Daily Challenges. Over time, we are already planning to expand them into having even more challenge types and better personalization! As always, we will build carefully and change based on user input and feedback (which can be submitted straight to me at samuel@learncodenow.org!)
On top of all of this, I wish you the best Christmas and an amazing time this holiday season! Thanks for supporting LearnCodeNow!
Best,
Sam
